Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Not as happy as i should be - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was my first new car and second Jeep. I owned a 97 Wrangler with 132,000 miles on it before I bought this one. I have to say the new Grand Cherokee is in my opinion the best looking midsize suv on the market now. The ride is very smooth in this suv and highway driving is a pleasure. I had a chance to take it offroad once on the beach and was so impressed by it. It seemed to go through the sand even better than my Wrangler. I thought that by having AWD it wouldnt be as good but I was wrong. Now for the bad. The 3.7 v6 seems to run very rough and loud all the time. My steering wheel actually shakes at idle. It runs rougher than my old Jeep. Transmission shifts at the wrong time and gas mileage stinks.

Ive had my Jeep 18 months now and after initially being in the shop 6 times for transmission problems, the recall finally came out and the problem was fixed. I put this down to teething problems with a new model. Since then, this SUV has been fine as a family vehicle. Great ride and handling for an SUV. Interior a little dull - Jeep could have used better grade plastics on the trim. Overall, this SUV does the job and looks good.

Love my JGCL. 2500 trouble-free miles. Solid and functional design, no sqeaks or rattles. Quarda-drive is excellent in snow and on ice.

This vehicle is a reliable and able SUV. Most mechanical problems occurred in the first few years and were covered under the warranty. Interior and exterior have held up well though you need a bug deflector to protect the hood.

  • A very good mid size SUV - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Im generally very happy with this vehicle. We have had it for 3 years and over 50000 miles without any problems other than replacing the brake rotors. Our laredo is loaded with options and is fun and comfortable to drive. The stereo is great. My favorite feature is the quadradrive. This system is awesome how it sends power to the wheels with traction. I have tried and not been able to get it stuck in mud, snow and sand. I thought the V6 had enough power until we started towing a boat now wish I had a V8. Its a tough, go anywhere vehicle that doesnt look like a station wagon or minivan with four wheel drive. (Explorer, trailblazer, M class, MDX)

  • the real deal - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

this is my second jeep and i like it better than most suvs out there. this is a true go anywhere vehicle period. if you feel you need an suv as a daily driver, better look for something else because this is for those who actually need a capable vehicle able to go through almost anything nature throws at them. maybe this is why jeeps are often used as search and rescue vehicles and not just for off road. the only other true suvs that is as capable as a jeep is a hummer, a rover, and an mb g-series. thats it. a jeep is what you need and will be glad that you have when the going gets real tough.

  • Best car I have ever owned but... - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Looks sharp, rides like a dream, interior/exterior are fantastic. I have received compliments from people in parking lots who had Jeep GCs in the early 2000s/90s tell me that the new design will bring them back.

  • My Jeep Grand Cherokee Experience - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Nice exterior and Interior designs. Currently with a very competitive price. Poor reliability; after 30.000 it has been necessary to go to service several times to repair brakes, steering wheel (column) and other features repeatedly. Poor brakes.

  • Not the Grand Cherokee of old - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had this Jeep for 6 years now and I am generally pleased but it falls short of an A. My complaints may not be applicable to everyone since I"m 64". The driver seat is not comfortable. Leather is stiff and the upper part of the seat hits my back wrong. Also, poor lumbar support. My next issue is visibility. Rear view mirror is too low due to the convenience console on the ceiling (garage door opener/Sun glass holder). Rear window wiper assembly is huge and obscures vision. The only mechanical issue I had was failing air conditioning (twice).
